The Future of Wind Energy
Went to the DaVinci Institute's Night with a Futurist last night. The guest speaker was Walt Musial Walt Musial is a principal engineer at the National Renewable Energy Laboratory. He spoke about the history, mechanics, current advancements and future of the wind energy.
Very informative I left feeling I had a much better grasp of the subject. For more info see http://www.nrel.gov/wind/
Couple of interesting things mentioned that stuck out for me.
Paraphrasing
"Power in the wind is proportional to the area swept by the wind turbine.
Power in the wind is proportional to the wind velocity cubed.
A wind turbine cannot extract more than 59% of the wind energy."
